PROJECT:
VAMPIRE POWER
CLIENT: Los Angeles Department of Water & Power
LOCATION: Customer Engagement Lab @ La Kretz Innovation Center, Los Angeles, California
This interactive touchscreen was designed to educate guests about “vampire power” energy waste—electricity consumed by devices even when turned off. I created a user-driven interface that uses visual feedback and guided decision-making to teach energy-saving habits through interactive storytelling.
The experience simulates product usage choices and provides real-time results based on user input—an approach that parallels digital product onboarding, decision-tree UX, and sustainability-driven e-commerce tools. The goal was to simplify complex information, encourage behavioral change, and create an engaging, self-guided experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Art direction and visual design for touchscreen UI
- UX strategy for interactive decision-making and user flow logic
- Design of visual feedback system to reflect user choices and outcomes
- Information hierarchy and content simplification for user education
- UI layout and wireframes optimized for quick comprehension and self-guided use
DESIGN APPROACH
The overall aesthetic of the La Kretz Innovation Center is contemporary and modern with colorful zones delineating the different interactive areas of the space. Vampire Power's UI design reflects the subject matter, its surrounding environment and the actual fabricated kiosk that houses the screen. With its clean layout, bold red tones and modern fonts, I wanted the UI to serve up a sleek, high-end visual design experience for users to immerse themselves in while they learn more about energy conservation and sustainability.
